Payload-XL thermal vacuum tests

15/09/21

The thermal vacuum chamber at ESTEC has been pumped down, and Payload-XL will be exposed to temperatures in the range between -40C to +65C for the following 7 days. The goal is to emulate the orbit conditions (vacuum and temperature), when the satellite will spend a couple of hours facing the Sun, and another couple of hours in eclipse, in the Earth’s shadow. This temperature variation will last for the whole satellite’s life time, approximately 19 times a day, depending on the chosen orbit.
